Google Adwords Tracking in Google Analytics - 2006/07/17 23:18 A question about Adwords tracking from one of our subscribers:

QUOTE
I have a question about revenue tracking and more specifically adword tracking.

I see in our google analytics acct we are successfully tracking e-commerce transactions, however, it is not being tracked in the CPC analysis areas ('Trans', 'CR', 'ROI', etc..), . Any ideas of what could be happening FYI -- I am trying to look at the success/failure of different adword campaigns that we have set up with Google Adwords. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:
In order for Google Analytics to track your Adwords campaigns you either have to use the same username for both Adwords and Google Analytics, or you have to add your Adwords username as an account admin to your Google Analytics account. See here: http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?answer=26789

Once this is set up, Adwords will automatically tag your Adwords ads so that Google Analytics can track them. You also have the option of manually tagging your campaigns if you prefer. See here: http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?answer=31216

Re:Google Adwords Tracking in Google Analytics - 2007/07/14 01:07 What if I've followed your directions and it still doesn't show any data for our adwords ads? Auto-tagging is enabled and we're getting plenty of direct traffic from our adwords ads.

We just set up our analytics 2 days ago, does that have something to do with it? Doesn't seem like all of our other data would be gathered as it is if so......

Thanks,
Robert

Re:Google Adwords Tracking in Google Analytics - 2007/07/18 14:44 You should be able to see Adwords info in your account. I will contact you separately to resolve this issue.

Re:Google Adwords Tracking in Google Analytics - 2007/12/06 14:10 I'm having this same issue as well...

Google AdWords and GA appear to be under the same account. My campaign even shows underneath the GA "Traffic Sources" section. However, it doesn't appear that visits are being logged?

Can you help?

Re:Google Adwords Tracking in Google Analytics - 2007/12/12 23:38 There are two things you should look for. First, when you login to your adwords account, is there an analytics tab? Is the analytics account set up for autotagging?

If everything is set up correctly than I would test it. Click one of your own adwords links. You should see a parameter in your landing page URL of the form:
http://www.yourstore.com/yourpage.html?gclid=XXXXXXXXXXX

The Xs will be be a unique string of characters but Google Analytics can read it and get the information it needs every click-thru. Assuming that your page code is working correctly, you should end up with the right information in your reports. Hopefully this helps.
