Idea: site search. - 2007/11/14 14:21
So, I was using GA and I came up with a couple of ideas that might be nice features: 1.) Could monitus possibly reformat the searches behind the scenes? That is, when it get's a URL of the form of an internal search, it would automatically rewrite it into a cleaner format such as:
/Site-Search/?query=test%20search and /Zero-Results/?query=test%20search
The reason for this is simple. Since we generally don't use subdirectories in Yahoo! stores, we're not able to take much advantage of the Content Drilldown report. Since the Dynamic Content report from the older GA interface is no-longer available, we don't get much in terms of URL parameter analysis (you could override the new site-search capabilities though). With all of that being said, it would be nice to get that data.
On a separate note, it looks like when you're on the search results page and you do subsequent searches, it doesn't put those searches in the URL. Is there a way that we could capture those (i.e. via JavaScript) and get those into our reports as well? At the end of the day, I'd like to know what folks search for and if/how they refined their search so I can do some internal content/copy updates to reorder some of the results.
