Ok, I have done some more research... And it is a known FireFox bug - the way FireFox calculates window sizes is somehow based on the status bar size which, in turn, is affected by some extensions if they put stuff in there - like Zotero and the Monitus.net extension... I apologize for this, I didn't know at the time that this bug existed. I will keep investigating to try and find workarounds.
In the meantime, I have found this page which might help you with your curretn symptoms:
