The Web Analytics Connector for Google Analytics
What is the Web Analytics connector for Google Analytics and Yahoo! Store?

The Web Analytics Connector enables Google Analytics to properly track Yahoo! Store e-commerce transactions. Our patent pending method allows you to see the search terms someone used in a search engine to find your site, all the way through to the actual purchase, without using 3rd party cookies. Knowing your converting keywords is the key to optimizing your site.

Unlike some other (higher-priced) web analytics packages, our connector allows you to see converting keywords on a product level. Does your solution for getting e-commerce data into GA tell you what your converting keywords are?

Is it easy to install?

The Web Analytics Connector is as easy to install as the standard Google Analytics tracking code. Please see our installation instructions.

How much does the Web Analytics Connector cost?

See our pricing page for more information.

What are the requirements?

The Web Analytics Connector works only with the new checkout manager. Yahoo! has announced that all merchants will be migrated over to the checkout manager in the future, and that all new signups as from April 2006 will get the checkout manager by default.

You will also need a free Google Analytics account, which you can get here . You should be able to get your email invitation code within a couple of weeks, or almost immediately if you are an active Adwords customer.

Associating product categories to items

Product Categories If you have product categories containing multiple items you can now analyze the performance of those product categories right in Google Analytics. View the "Product Categories"  report in Google Analytics to see this data.

Setup instructions:

If you use Merchant Solutions or have upgraded to Merchant Solutions you have three ways to associate items with product categories:

1) Using a custom feed from yourstorewizards.com:

This is the quickest and easiest way. For a small monthly fee, yourstorewizards.com will automatically create a feed for your store, which we will pick up and associate with your account. When you update your items, the feed will be automatically updated. There is no ongoing maintenance involved for you.

 Details: www.yourstorewizards.com/monitus-category-feed.html

2) In Catalog Manager:

Click on "Manage Your Tables" and edit "default-table" (If you use other tables repeat these instructions). In the "Custom Fields" section click "Edit". Add a new field called monitus-category of type Text. Hit Update when you are done and "Save" the table.

You will now see this new field when you add or edit your items. Add the category name in this field for your items. Publish your catalog when you are done. The monitus-category field will be added to your XML feed catalog.xml, which we can then pick up. Of course, your XML feed has to be enabled. If this is not the case, you can enable the feed in Store Manager > Search Engines.

3) Send us a simple CSV file:

The csv file should be comma-separated and only contain two fields: id and category, where id is the id of the item. Click here for a sample file: categories.csv

Finally email this file to us and we will associate it with your account.

If you have a legacy store you don't have Catalog Manager and hence you can only use this third method or sign-up for the feed service at yourstorewizards.com .

Useful tip

If you have hundreds or thousands of products it may be very time-consuming for you to add categories to items. However, if you use the Store Editor and if your catalog is categorized according to sections and products, you could use a simple RTML template to help you generate the csv file automatically. Get your RTML developer to do this for you if you don't want to do this yourself.

Here is a sample RTML template that you could use. It uses the helper RTML template find-top-section to associate every item with the top-level category in your store. Then copy and paste the output to a text editor and save as a csv file.

How many Yahoo! Stores can I track?

You can track up to 5 Yahoo! Stores with one subscription at monitus.net. All sites tracked count towards your page view total.

When you register for our service, you will be asked for the UA code, Yahoo! Store ID and associated domain names of your first site. Please email this information for any additional sites you want to track and we will add those to your account.

Is my Google Analytics data safe?

The Web Analytics Connector for Google Analytics and Yahoo! Store enables any referrer data gathered on your main site to persist all the way through to the confirmation page and tie it to actual order information. This requires that we temporarily store data on our server and send it back in a format that the Google Analytics code can read. Once the data has been handed off to Google Analytics it is destroyed on our server.

I already have the Google Analytics code installed on my site...

You may have been using Google Analytics on your site for some time now, but you are missing out on some of the key capabilities of Google Analytics: the ability to retain referrer data all the way through to the confirmation page and associate referrer data with actual products and transaction amounts.

In order to use the Web Analytics Connector for Google Analytics and Yahoo! Store you have to remove the Google Analytics tracking code on your site and replace it with our code. When you register for our service you have to specify the UA code you are using. Our tracking code will automatically call the Google Analytics code.

How long does it take for data to show up in Google Analytics?
This is entirely dependent on Google Analytics itself. It could take from a couple of hours to a full 24 hours.

How accurate is the Web Analytics Connector?

There are several reasons why some transactions may not be logged, including but not limited to:

  • General Internet network congestion.
  • Firewalls.
  • Server unavailability.
  • Incomplete page loading.

In order to capture the transaction data on the confirmation page, our code has to be executed; if a shopper leaves or closes the confirmation page immediately our code may not have the chance to run properly, possibly resulting in a transaction not being logged.

Therefore, we cannot guarantee a 100% success rate. However, on the whole you should get great data to pour over in your Google Analytics account.
